Five Days War in Semarang
We all know Tugu Muda which was built to commemorate the fivle-day-five-night battle between the youth of Semarang with Japanese battalion which was lead by Major Kido on 14 to 19 October 1945.
The Japanese forces that drove away the Dutch took over the Indonesian teritory. But the crueler. When the Japanese troops built a base camp in Semarang, Japan also took over Lawang Sewu, a building which was built by the Dutch Semarang fighters tried to the death to repel the Japanese invaders. Many of the fighters were killed 1n the battle. Japan initially tried to kill all the residents of Semarang by poisoning water in the taps. Thanks to dr Karyadi who knew the Japanese’s intention, the plot failed. All the residents were told not to drink the water from the taps.
Triggered by this coward action, the youths 1n Semarang immediately launched a war action. It lasted in five days and five nights but the Japanese succeeded in killing dr. Kariyadi. The battle was eventually won by the fighters of Semarang and they managed in repelling the Japanese until the area of Ambarawa.
